Worked example

What it makes

Three questions from a easier quiz on speed, distance and time, with the answers and worked solutions the quiz shows after checking.

  1. 1. A coach travels 140 km in 2 hours. What is its average speed?

    Options: 142 km/h · 138 km/h · 70 km/h · 280 km/h

    Answer: 70 km/h

    Speed = distance ÷ time = 140 ÷ 2 = 70 km/h.

  2. 2. A car travels at 65 km/h for 3 hours. How far does it go?

    Options: 68 km · 21.7 km · 195 km · 260 km

    Answer: 195 km

    Distance = speed × time = 65 × 3 = 195 km.

  3. 3. A train travels 180 km in 6 hours. What is its average speed?

    Options: 30 km/h · 186 km/h · 174 km/h · 1080 km/h

    Answer: 30 km/h

    Speed = distance ÷ time = 180 ÷ 6 = 30 km/h.

Who it's for

Who uses it

  • Maths teachers

    Practice on the formula without drawing the triangle.

  • Learners

    Stop reading 2.5 hours as 2 hours 50 minutes.

  • Science teachers

    Speed and unit conversions for physics.

Good to know

What to consider

  • Speeds are in km/h and m/s.
  • Level 2 includes times in hours and minutes; level 3 adds speeds over minutes and unit conversions.
  • Average speed only; there is no acceleration.

Questions

About the Speed, Distance and Time Quiz Generator

Does it use miles per hour?

Not yet: speeds are in km/h and m/s.

How do I know the answers are right?

The questions are computed, not written by AI: each answer is worked out with exact arithmetic and checked again by a separate solver in our tests. Every question shows its worked solution after the learner checks their answers.

Can my students use it without an account?
