Worked example
What it makes
13 questions across 5 areas. Each answer scores 0 to 3; an area's score is its points as a share of the most it could get.
Value and customers
- You can state the main value customers get, in their words, and roughly what it's worth to them.
- Customers are grouped by needs or willingness to pay, not just size.
Packaging and value metric
- What you charge for (per user, per unit, per project) grows with the value customers get.
- Plans or packages are clearly different and each fits a named customer group.
- Most customers can work out what they'd pay without needing to ask.
Price levels and evidence
- Prices were set using evidence (customer research, competitor ranges, tests), not only costs.
- You know your margin at each price point.
- You track win rate and price objections by plan or price level.
Discounting
- Discount rules are written down, with limits and who can approve more.
- Discounts are given in exchange for something, such as a longer term or upfront payment.
- Average discount is reviewed over time.
Review and change
- Prices are reviewed on a regular schedule, at least yearly.
- Price changes are planned with a message and notice for existing customers.
