Worked example
What it makes
Three questions from a easier quiz on simultaneous equations, with the answers and worked solutions the quiz shows after checking.
1. Solve the simultaneous equations 2x + y = 15 and 3x − y = 20.
Options: x = −7, y = 1 · x = 7, y = −1 · x = 7, y = 1 · x = 1, y = 7
Answer: x = 7, y = 1
Add the equations to remove y: 5x = 35, so x = 7. Substitute x = 7 into 2x + y = 15: y = 1.
2. Solve the simultaneous equations x + y = 9 and x − y = 3.
Options: x = 3, y = 6 · x = 6, y = −3 · x = 6, y = 3 · x = −6, y = 3
Answer: x = 6, y = 3
Add the equations to remove y: 2x = 12, so x = 6. Substitute x = 6 into x + y = 9: y = 3.
3. Solve the simultaneous equations 3x + y = 15 and 2x − y = −5.
Options: x = 2, y = 9 · x = −2, y = 9 · x = 2, y = −9 · x = 9, y = 2
Answer: x = 2, y = 9
Add the equations to remove y: 5x = 10, so x = 2. Substitute x = 2 into 3x + y = 15: y = 9.

Good to know
What to consider
- Every pair has one whole-number solution, sometimes negative or 0 from level 2.
- Level 1 adds the equations, level 2 adds or subtracts, level 3 needs the equations multiplied first.
- The solutions use elimination; substitution gives the same answer.
Questions
About the Simultaneous Equations Quiz Generator
Are there graphical questions?
No. The quiz is text-only, so it doesn't ask learners to read where two lines cross on a graph.
How do I know the answers are right?
The questions are computed, not written by AI: each answer is worked out with exact arithmetic and checked again by a separate solver in our tests. Every question shows its worked solution after the learner checks their answers.
Can my students use it without an account?
Yes. Publish the Room and share the link: anyone with it can take the quiz, check their answers and read the worked solutions. You need a free account to keep and publish the Room.
