Worked example

What it makes

Three questions from a easier quiz on linear inequalities, with the answers and worked solutions the quiz shows after checking.

  1. 1. Solve 8x < 72.

    Options: x < 576 · x > 9 · x < 9 · x < 64

    Answer: x < 9

    Divide both sides by 8: x < 72 ÷ 8, so x < 9.

  2. 2. Solve x − 5 < 3.

    Options: x < −2 · x > 8 · x < 8 · x ≤ 8

    Answer: x < 8

    Add 5 to both sides: x < 3 + 5, so x < 8.

  3. 3. Solve 7x ≥ 21.

    Options: x ≥ 3 · x ≥ 147 · x ≤ 3 · x ≥ 14

    Answer: x ≥ 3

    Divide both sides by 7: x ≥ 21 ÷ 7, so x ≥ 3.

Who it's for

Who uses it

  • Maths teachers

Practice that follows on from linear equations.

  • Learners

Remember to reverse the sign when dividing by a negative number.

  • Tutors

Tell < and ≤ mix-ups apart from sign mistakes.

Good to know

What to consider

  • Answers are written as x < 4, x ≥ −2 and so on; number lines are not drawn.
  • Level 3 includes negative coefficients and x on both sides.
  • Levels are difficulty bands, not school grades or a curriculum.

Questions

About the Inequalities Quiz Generator

Does it show answers on a number line?

No. The quiz is text-only, so answers are written as inequalities.

How do I know the answers are right?

The questions are computed, not written by AI: each answer is worked out with exact arithmetic and checked again by a separate solver in our tests. Every question shows its worked solution after the learner checks their answers.

Can my students use it without an account?

Yes. Publish the Room and share the link: anyone with it can take the quiz, check their answers and read the worked solutions. You need a free account to keep and publish the Room.
