Energy savings
Saving per year
$1,780
Simple payback
4.5 years
Net saving over the change's life
$12,698
Energy saved per year
9,000 kWh
- Energy saved = yearly use × reduction.
- Saving per year = energy saved × price per kWh − extra running cost.
- Payback = upfront cost ÷ saving per year, at today's price.
- Over its life the price changes by your yearly rate: energy saved × price × ((1 + change)^years − 1) ÷ change, minus running costs and the upfront cost.

How it's calculated
- Energy saved = yearly use × reduction.
- Saving per year = energy saved × price per kWh − extra running cost.
- Payback = upfront cost ÷ saving per year, at today's price.
- Over its life the price changes by your yearly rate: energy saved × price × ((1 + change)^years − 1) ÷ change, minus running costs and the upfront cost.
- Assumes: Use the price per kWh the cut would save; fixed daily or standing charges usually don't fall.
- Assumes: The reduction is your estimate or the supplier's claim: measure use before and after if you can.
- Assumes: Future savings are not discounted to today's money; use the NPV calculator for that.

Good to know
What to consider
- Use the price per kWh from your own bills; fixed standing charges usually don't fall when use does.
- The reduction is your estimate or a supplier's claim: measure before and after if you can.
